Enjoy a swim surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges at the Lake Bellfield Swimming and Picnic Area. The picnic area is well equipped with multiple picnic tables, wood fire barbecues, water tap and toilet block.
Lake Bellfield is a popular destination for fishing, paddle boating, walking and picnicking, located four kilometres south of Halls Gap. The water here is shallow along the shore with a steady decline to deeper water, providing a decent stretch of shallow water for small children to play in before giving way to deeper water for swimming and paddle boating.
This section of Lake Bellfield is located along Grampians Road opposite the Silverband Road turnoff, 6km from Halls Gap. Further back towards Halls Gap along Grampians Road is
another spot on Lake Bellfield, which features a lookout platform and scenic walk across the dam wall.
Swimming
Swimming at Lake Bellfield is only permitted between the signs at this picnic area. Do not swim more than 30 metres from shore. The distance to the bank on the opposite side of the lake is 1400 metres. Swimming at any other locations around Lake Bellfield is prohibited due to extremely cold temperatures and dangerous variations in water depth.
Fishing
Grab your fishing rods and head out for a relaxing afternoon along the shores of Lake Bellfield. Redfin, blackfish and brown trout can be caught in abundance, and there are countless great spots along the shoreline to set up for a peaceful day of fishing.
Boating
There is a boat ramp located here. Please note that motorboats are not permitted on Lake Bellfield.
